Advice that moves the Netherlands forward (Dutch required)
AEF is a consultancy firm for the public sector. For more than forty years we have been working on issues that truly matter to society. With around ninety colleagues – consultants and support staff – and 300 to 400 projects each year, we support ministries, municipalities, executive agencies and semi-public institutions. Our office is located on the Maliebaan in Utrecht.
What we do
The challenges in the public sector are often complex and far-reaching. We help organizations to analyze these challenges and translate them into concrete solutions. This includes policy development, organizational change and program evaluations. Examples include:
-
Cost analysis of the reception of Ukrainian refugees, which enabled the ministry to adjust national standards and funding arrangements.
-
Building a forecasting model for shortages of general practitioners, combining future healthcare demand with expected capacity per municipality.
-
Supporting the City of Amsterdam, Liander and TenneT in tackling grid congestion, by streamlining cooperation to accelerate the expansion of electricity transport capacity.
We work across diverse sectors such as healthcare, education, spatial planning, sustainability, migration and sports. In all these domains, we combine analytical insight with practical applicability: advice should not only be well-designed, but also workable in day-to-day practice.
How we work
AEF works with small, flexible teams that are formed around each project. This allows us to combine different perspectives and areas of expertise. We are analytical and critical, but always focused on collaboration. Our core values are independence, commitment and high quality. The public sector requires solutions that are not only smart, but also broadly supported.
Who we are
AEF is a place where people know each other well. Collegiality matters to us: we work closely together in projects and also meet outside of work. Each year we organize a two-day office retreat, we go on a ski trip, and we regularly host AEF Live, social drinks and office evenings. This creates a close-knit and engaged organization.
For new colleagues
At AEF we believe that graduates can contribute from day one. That is why we invest in a new generation of consultants: interns join real projects immediately, and starters take on responsibility from the beginning. You are never on your own – a mentor, a training program and additional courses ensure that you are supported. This way, you learn quickly and gain broad experience in the public sector.
Working at AEF means tackling challenging assignments in an inspiring environment: a beautiful office, shared lunches, and colleagues who are both committed and curious.
